Rookie-era Ohtani cards

The rookie year produced base cards in six products at once, most of them with short-printed photo variations, plus a parallel ladder on the chrome issues. That is not one card with a price — it is a dozen markets that share a season, and the whole job of this cut is to keep them apart while you shop them together.

Two things to hold on to. A card number and a photograph are part of the identity, so a sale of one variation is not evidence about another; and a rookie-year card is not automatically above a pre-rookie or a milestone card — it is a different market, not a higher rung. This is also the corner where counterfeits concentrate, because it is where the money is. Buy the seller as carefully as the card, and prefer a graded copy when the price gap does not punish you for it.
